====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== South Dakota--Four Lawmakers Kill Scholarship Fairness Bill Dear HSLDA Members and Friends: After passing the House of Representatives with solid support, the scholarship fairness bill was killed on Feb. 21 when four senators--Rave, Johnston, Soholt and Maher--voted against it in senate committee. Homeschool families will continue to see the state spend their tax dollars on a college scholarship program that discriminates against their children. If you need a "nudge" to get involved and help elect homeschool-friendly lawmakers, this is it! Senators Jensen and Rampelberg voted in favor of the bill in committee, for which we are very grateful. ACTION REQUESTED If any of the senators listed above is your senator, please take a moment to call them--to thank the two who voted in favor, and courteously entreat the four who voted against it to support it when we bring the issue back up next year. Also please call your representative--to thank the 37 who voted "yes" and gently urge the 32 who voted "no" to support the bill next year. Here is the list of how the representatives voted: http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=17378 Use our Legislative Toolbox to find the name of your representative or senator (be sure to type in your ZIP Code). http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=17379 We owe a special debt of thanks to Representative Lance Russell. He championed the bill and worked hard for its passage. The volunteers who run the legislative ministry of South Dakota Christian Homeschoolers spent untold hours trying to make the world a better place for South Dakota homeschoolers via HB 1128. If you are not a member already, please consider joining and helping this very worthy ministry! Thank you for standing with us for freedom! Sincerely Yours, Scott A. Woodruff, Esq., Senior Counsel, HSLDA P.S. We greatly value you and your support--it is a privilege to serve you!
