====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== Please Come to the 2013 Homeschool Day at the Capitol! Dear HSLDA Members and Friends: As many of you know, there are several issues right now in the Washington Legislature that would impact homeschool freedom or your parental rights. The two biggest bills that we are tracking are a bill to lower the compulsory school age from 8 to 6, House Bill 1283, and the third party visitation bills, House Bills 1506 and 1934. Many of you have made calls against these bills and we appreciate it. But there is more that you can do; come to the Homeschool Day at the Capitol this coming Wednesday, February 27! We believe it is important for you to set aside one day in your home education program to help protect the freedom that you in Washington state to teach your children at home. Please consider coming to this event and joining hundreds of other homeschoolers in Olympia. There is still time for you to register via email to come to the 2013 Homeschool Day at the Capitol! Every single day you have the freedom to teach your children what you believe they need for this year as you prepare them for the rest of their life. You have that freedom because Washington State currently protects home-based education programs. For instance, the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) specifically states that homeschool parents "shall be subject only to those minimum state laws and regulations which are necessary to insure that a sufficient basic education opportunity is provided to the children receiving such instruction." RCW sec. 28A.200.020. The best way for you to help protect homeschool freedom in Washington is to attend the Homeschool Day at the Capitol on February 27, 2012. Having vibrant homeschool families flood Olympia on the Day at the Capitol event has a lasting impression on your legislators! We want these men and women who represent you in the capitol to remember your family, and hundreds of others, when homeschool issues come up for years to come. In addition to helping protect homeschool freedom in Washington State, the Homeschool Day at the Capitol is packed with special speakers, workshops, tours of the capitol building and much more. These events will all provide a unique educational experience for you and your children in your homeschool program. To pre-register for the Homeschool Day at the Capitol event and get more information please visit the event website: http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=17321 . This vital event wouldn't be possible without the tireless work from Christian Homeschool Network of Washington (CHNOW) and the support of Christian Heritage Home Educators of Washington. CHNOW works extremely hard at monitoring legislation and keeping up relationships with legislators. Without CHNOW, HSLDA would have a much harder time monitoring legislation in Washington. While the Homeschool Day at the Capitol event is free, a $15 donation to CHNOW is strongly encouraged to help them with the costs of this event. If you can give more, please do. REQUESTED ACTION: 1) Come to Olympia on February 27, 2013, to participate in Homeschool Day at the Capitol. 2) If you can't make it to the Home Education Day at the Capitol, please pray for the event and consider giving to CHNOW and support this event. You can do so here: http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=17322 3) Feel free to pass this email on to your homeschool friends!
