====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== House Bill 4250 is a Threat to Homeschool Freedom Dear Michigan Members and Friends, If passed, House Bill ("HB") 4250 would require parents to register their homeschool students with both local school district and the Department of Education. Although we're not asking you to take action now, please read this e-lert for important information about your freedom. Homeschoolers are not currently required to register in Michigan, and this proposed regulation would unnecessarily burden our homeschooling freedoms. HSLDA opposes this bill and is working with Citizens for Traditional Values, INCH, the Home Education League of Michigan, and homeschool advocate attorney David Kallman to stop the bill from moving forward. You can view or print the introduced bill from the Michigan Legislature website here: http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id= 17231 . The bill is currently in the House Education Committee where we expect it will be sharply rejected. Therefore, we are not asking for any action at this time. However, please stay tuned for further information about this bill should action be required. HSLDA is opposing numerous attempts by state legislatures all over the country seeking to impose additional, and in some cases draconian, burdens on homeschooling families. Whether it is requiring "behavioral health assessments" for homeschoolers (CT), state-approved assessments (SC), increasing reporting requirements (MN) or "simple registration" (MI), among others, it is critical that we continue to stand together to defend our freedoms. Your membership with HSLDA and support of our partners in Michigan as listed above allow us to be able secure your freedom now and for our future generations. If you or someone you know is not a member of HSLDA, will you consider taking a moment today to join or recommend us? Your support for our work enables us to defend individual families threatened by government officials and protect homeschooling freedom for all. Join now >> http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id= 17232 Very truly yours, Michael P. Donnelly, Esq. HSLDA Staff Attorney P.S. We greatly value you and your support--it is a privilege to serve you.
