====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== Oklahoma: Home Educators' Capitol Day--One Week Away! Dear HSLDA Members and Friends: The Oklahoma Home Educators' Capitol Day is next week! On February 12, 2013, we will mark the 28th Annual Home Educators' Capitol Day in Oklahoma. I believe that this event is one of main reasons Oklahoma has continued to enjoy exceptional homeschooling freedom. It is because so many homeschoolers over the years have made it a priority to come to the Oklahoma Capitol Day that you have made such an impression on legislators. HSLDA and OCHEC are tracking multiple bills that could impact homeschooling families in Oklahoma. Among them are House Bill 1906, relating to extra-curricular activities, and House Bill 1027, which creates the Oklahoma Opportunity Scholarship. For more information on these bills and any more HSLDA is tracking please go to: http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=17085 . We have certainly seen great uncertainty and even turmoil on a national level, but we must stand strong in our conviction to teach our children at home and hold tight to those biblical principles upon which many of our convictions are based. That is why the theme for this year's Home Educators' Capitol Day is so fitting--Standing Strong! Will you come and join with thousands, yes thousands, of homeschoolers across Oklahoma? Last year 2,500 homeschoolers showed up for Capitol Day. Register today at: http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=16903 and help continue to make the Oklahoma Home Educators' Capitol Day the best in the country! At Capitol Day your family will have the opportunity to tour the Capitol, sit in on the opening session of the House or Senate, invite your legislator to lunch, watch a historical re-enactor, participate in a scavenger hunt, sit in on a town hall meeting, and attend a rally on the 2nd floor of the Capitol Building. Check-in and activities begin at 8:30 a.m. The scheduled speakers at the rally this year include Lt. Governor Todd Lamb, Rep. Josh Cockroft, Rep. Randy Grau, Rep. Jason Murphy, and HSLDA Staff Attorney Tj Schmidt. Over the years, the Oklahoma Home Educators' Capitol Day has been one of the best-attended events across the country within the homeschool community. I strongly believe that it is because of your attendance, and hundreds of other homeschooling families, that home education freedom in Oklahoma has remained strong. Over the years Oklahoma homeschool families have resisted several attempts by legislators to regulate them. All have failed due to your efforts and prayers. We would love to see the 2013 Oklahoma Home Educators' Capitol Day have the biggest attendance yet. Please plan now to bring your family to Oklahoma City and have a wonderful experience for your children and the future of home education freedom. Find out more information here: http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=16904 . REQUESTED ACTION: 1) Come to the Capitol on February 12, 2013, to participate in the 28th Annual Home Educators' Capitol Day. If you or an older child would like to be a volunteer, please contact capitolday@ochec.com for more information. 2) If you can't come to the Home Education Day at the Capitol, please pray for the event. Contact your state legislators and get to know them beyond just the Home Educators' Capitol Day event. If desired, you could also donate to help defray the costs (over $3,000) of Capitol Day at: http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=16905 . If you are not yet a member of HSLDA and would like to help us fight for greater parental rights and homeschool freedom in Oklahoma please visit http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=16906 . If you would like to be put on our email list to receive vital e-lerts you may sign up at http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=16907 . Thank you for your part in fighting for freedom in Oklahoma and I hope to see you next week at the Oklahoma Home Educators' Capitol Day! Feel free to forward this to your friends who are homeschooling but may not be part of HSLDA, OCHEC, or CHEF of OK.
