====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== Victory on HB 144 and SF 96--Threats to Family Freedom Defeated...for Now! Dear Wyoming Members and Friends, Your calls made a difference thank you! We are pleased to report that the threat of changes to the compulsory attendance law are dead--for now. SF 96 died today and HB 144 yesterday on third readings in the Wyoming Senate and House. SF 96 was sponsored by Senator Rothfuss and would have increased the compulsory school attendance age to 18. The bill also would have required all parents to meet with school officials in order to exempt their 16-18 year olds from school or for homeschoolers to be exempt from additional reporting requirements. HB 144 would have paved the way for lowering the compulsory attendance age. We want to thank Senator Leslie Nutting who offered amendments to SF 96 which would have improved the homeschool law in Wyoming. Please take a moment to thank her for supporting homeschool freedom at Leslie.Nutting@wyoleg.gov. Thank you for taking prompt action to defend our precious freedom from unreasonable government interference. We are grateful for the efforts made by other groups including WyWatch, HOW and Parental Rights of Wyoming--working together we can be a force for freedom in Wyoming. Please stay tuned as we continue to monitor other legislation, in particular changes being proposed to the reporting laws in cases of suspected abuse and neglect. Very truly yours, Michael P. Donnelly, Esq. HSLDA Attorney P.S. We greatly value you and your support--it is a privilege to serve you!
