====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== Oklahoma: Make Your Plans to Come to the 28th Annual Home Educators' Capitol Day! Dear HSLDA Members and Friends: The Oklahoma Home Educators' Capitol Day is less than a month away! On February 12, 2013, we will mark the 28th Annual Home Educators' Capitol Day in Oklahoma. This event is the longest running Home Education Day at the Capitol in the country. I believe that this event, hosted by Oklahoma Christian Home Educators' Consociation (OCHEC), along with the consistent large turnout by homeschooling families across the state, is one of main reasons Oklahoma has continued to enjoy exceptional homeschooling freedom. We have certainly seen great uncertainty and even turmoil on a national level, but we must stand strong in our conviction to teach our children at home and hold tight to those biblical principles upon which many of our convictions are based. That is why the theme for this year's Home Educators' Capitol Day is so fitting--Standing Strong! Will you come and join with thousands, yes thousands, of homeschoolers across Oklahoma? Last year 2,500 homeschoolers showed up for Capitol Day. At Capitol Day your family will have the opportunity to tour the Capitol, sit in on the opening session of the House or Senate, invite your legislator to lunch, watch a historical re-enactor, participate in a scavenger hunt, sit in on a town hall meeting, and attend a rally on the 2nd floor of the Capitol Building. Check-in and activities begin at 8:30 a.m. The scheduled speakers at the rally this year include Lt. Governor Todd Lamb, Rep. Josh Cockroft, Rep. Randy Grau, Rep. Jason Murphy, and HSLDA Staff Attorney Tj Schmidt. Over the years, the Oklahoma Home Educators' Capitol Day has been one of the best-attended events across the country within the homeschool community. I strongly believe that it is because of your attendance, and hundreds of other homeschooling families, that home education freedom in Oklahoma has remained strong. Over the years Oklahoma homeschool families have resisted several attempts by legislators to regulate them. All have failed due to your efforts and prayers. We would love to see the 2013 Oklahoma Home Educators' Capitol Day have the biggest attendance yet.
