Dear Members and Friends; Christian Home Educators of Kentucky is hosting their annual Leadership Summit on February 2, 2013. This event is open to all support group leaders, co-op leaders/teachers, and pastors. If a leader is unable to attend the Leadership Summit a representative from the group/co-op can attend in his or her place. This year's theme is Choose Ye Whom You Will Serve. The CHEK Leadership Summit will be in the Nolin RECC Conference Room in Elizabethtown, Kentucky from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Both breakfast and lunch will be provided. There is a suggested donation of $10 to attend, but there is a no-cost option as well. You can register for the event at: http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=16900 . Several speakers are scheduled to be at the 2013 CHEK Leadership Summit, including a few state legislators and HSLDA Staff Attorney Tj Schmidt. Tj will be sharing some of the challenges and cases homeschoolers have faced across the state this year. He will also discuss some of the threats to homeschool freedom and parental rights that HSLDA is monitoring on a national level. Topics will include the Common Core Standards Initiative, the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child, the U.N. Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and the Parental Rights Amendment. The CHEK Leadership Summit will also have a "town hall" session that will provide you with an opportunity to meet with other homeschool leaders from across the state, ask questions, and exchange ideas. When you register for the CHEK Leadership Summit you will have an opportunity to suggest topics for the town hall discussion time. Please plan now to attend this great leadership event!
