====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== Mendon-Upton School Committee Meeting to Review Homeschool Policy Dear HSLDA Members and Friends, The policy subcommittee of the Mendon-Upton Regional School District is meeting this evening, October 15, 2012 at 5:30 p.m. to review comments submitted by homeschoolers concerning the district's new homeschool policy. On May 7 the Mendon-Upton School Committee revised their homeschool policy to include several new unlawful and burdensome requirements. The policy includes requirements to match standards for public schools, use district-approved notification forms, and coordinate meetings with an administrator who will supervise homeschool programs. It also insists that no changes may be made to a homeschool program without prior approval of the school committee or superintendent. This policy goes far beyond what Massachusetts homeschool law allows. I have been corresponding with the school district over the summer in regard to this policy. Along with many homeschoolers in the district who have expressed their concern, I submitted comments on the policy to the school district. If you homeschool your children in Mendon-Upton District or a district nearby, please consider attending. Your attendance will show support for our cause and encourage the school committee to make positive changes.
