====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== Iowa: Reminder--Evaluation Due by June 30 Dear Iowa Members: If you do not use a supervising teacher and your child was 7 years old or older last September 15, this is just a reminder that you must file a year-end evaluation with your local superintendent by June 30. For a list of types of evaluations you can submit, take a look at our Iowa homeschool law summary http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=8566 . If you are about to submit the first evaluation for the child, it will be considered the "baseline," and it is not necessary for the child to achieve a particular score or show any particular progress. If the evaluation you are about to submit is not the child's first, it will be necessary to show adequate progress. Our website explains what is considered adequate progress. If you are submitting a report card from an accredited correspondence program, a passing grade is needed in the required subjects. If you are planning to submit a standardized test for the evaluation, remember that you can blot out, or redact, any test scores for subjects not required to be evaluated for the child's grade level. If the child scored at or below the 30th percentile in any required subject area, please contact our office immediately. If your child was only age 6 as of last September 15, no assessment of any type is due.
