====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== Kansas City: Decisive Daytime Curfew Victory Dear HSLDA Members and Friends, As expected, yesterday the odious daytime curfew idea was abandoned, and the City Council of Kansas City, MO instead adopted a municipal truancy ordinance that parallels state compulsory attendance law. Homeschool families have once more been the sharp point of the spear in protecting liberty, by the grace of God, for all. No other organized voice of opposition was raised. One of the best ways to protect a particular right is to keep on using it. We encourage you to exercise your freedom of movement in a responsible way. Young people enjoying the city during public school hours should consider carrying a cell phone, with a parent quickly accessible, in the event that a police officer mistakes them for a truant public school student. If you ever believe your rights have been violated by the way the new municipal truancy law is enforced, please contact us immediately. As you have an opportunity, consider sending a note of thanks to Brad Haines of Families for Home Education for his highly effective work on this issue, and to Councilman John A. Sharp, whose support was crucial. If you live outside of Kansas City, MO, watch your local government like a hawk, and let us know if another daytime curfew plan is slipped into the agenda. We have no way of knowing unless you tell us. Thank you for standing with us for liberty! Sincerely, Scott Woodruff HSLDA Senior Counsel ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -> Is customer service an art or a science?
