====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== Daytime Curfew Gone! Dear HSLDA Members and Friends: Home School Legal Defense Association assisted Cedar Park homeschoolers in successfully defeating an existing daytime curfew. Recently, the Cedar Park City Council unanimously decided to repeal its daytime curfew law. The existing ordinance was intended to fight public school truancy, but it also affected homeschool students by limiting their rights and exposing them to harassment. The curfew allowed the police to stop and question any individual under 17 who was in a public place during school hours. HSLDA notified homeschoolers in the Cedar Park area that the curfew was being reconsidered and encouraged them to testify against it. Local homeschool activists spearheaded the opposition. Hoping to sway a majority of the council members to oppose the ordinance, homeschoolers in Cedar Park testified concerning the negative effects they experienced from the daytime curfew in two public hearings. But the vote went beyond our expectations: the curfew was repealed unanimously. Other Texas cities have some form of daytime curfews.
