====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== Kansas City: Daytime Curfew Battle--Victory is Near! Dear HSLDA Members and Friends, Thank you for your awesome love of liberty! Your action in defense of freedom, and the effective work of Families for Home Education, has resulted in the complete abandonment of all efforts to impose a daytime curfew in Kansas City, MO! Discussions with Councilman Scott Wagner, the former daytime curfew proponent, have resulted in a proposed ordinance that discards the curfew concept. Instead, the new draft, identified as "ORDINANCE NO. 120180, AS AMENDED," takes Missouri's state compulsory attendance law and incorporates it nearly verbatim into the Kansas City ordinances. The right to move about freely during the day is not compromised. It includes some enforcement provisions that will make it easier for authorities to hold public school students and their parents accountable for obvious truancy. But these provisions should be of little concern to homeschool families. Your compliance with state law will automatically satisfy the draft ordinance. We are therefore not requesting any action at this time. However, if you wish to attend Thursday's City Council meeting to witness the conclusion of this battle firsthand, it will take place in City Hall on Thursday, May 3, at 3:00 p.m. Sincerely, Scott Woodruff HSLDA Senior Counsel ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -> Who are the nation's best lobbyists? We don't know that this has ever been determined; but we do know that HSLDA's Federal Relations Department is the only national organization lobbying on behalf of homeschoolers on Capitol Hill.
