====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== Senate Kills HB 1440 Dear HSLDA Members and Friends, House Bill 1440 cleared the House by a solid vote of 240-74, but the New Hampshire Senate sided with the expensive driving schools and their lobby, voting 17-7 to "study" HB 1440, the driver's education freedom bill. This is the equivalent of a kill vote since no bills are carried over through an election cycle. HSLDA commends the seven senators who voted for HB 1440. The other 17 voted for a restrictive monopoly at the expense of choice and freedom in in the face of popular support for the bill. To see the results of the vote go to: http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=14465 HSLDA also commends New Hampshire homeschoolers who spoke powerfully and drove HB 1440's success in the House. It is one of the pros and cons of our bicameral democratic process that even for common sense legislation like HB 1440, it can take several legislative sessions to make changes. HSLDA encourages New Hampshire families to support this legislation again next year when, hopefully, new senators will be more inclined to live up to the motto of "Live Free or Die." HSLDA commends the sponsors of the legislation, Jim Forsythe and Laura Jones, for their strong commitment to freedom. Senator Forsythe has announced that he will not be returning to the Senate as his professional responsibilities will require him to be out of state. His seat will be filled by a new and open Senate district. This might be an opportunity to serve the interests of your fellow citizens; in light of the vote on HB 1440, the New Hampshire Senate could use a few more friends of liberty. Without your support we could not stand for freedom in New Hampshire! If you or someone you know is not a member of HSLDA, will you consider taking a moment today to join or recommend us and support our work defending individual families threatened by government officials and protecting homeschooling freedom for all? http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=14466 Very truly yours, Michael P.
