====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== Homeschool Freedom Hearing Tomorrow! Dear HSLDA Members and Friends, Tomorrow is the day! Lower burdens and increased freedom are within the grasp of New Hampshire homeschoolers as two bills, HB 1571 and HB 545 will be heard in the Senate Education Committee tomorrow, April 17, 2012. Together, these bills would greatly improve the regulatory environment for homeschoolers in New Hampshire, and they need your support. > HB 1571 changes the homeschool law to require parents to simply keep a copy of an evaluation rather than having to send it to a participating agency. It also removes the commissioner's authority to hold a hearing which could result in the termination of a home education program. > HB 545 changes the homeschool law to create one-time only notification. It also grants the Home Education Advisory Council approval authority over proposed rules. Now is your chance to support legislation that directly affects your homeschool program. Members of the Senate Education Committee are looking to see if there is broad support for these bills--your presence and contact will send a strong message that homeschoolers definitely want these positive changes. Please take action to improve New Hampshire homeschool law! ACTION REQUESTED: 1. Attend the public hearing tomorrow! Sign the blue sheet and testify in favor of both bills as written. If there is much controversy over these bills, the Senate could try to put them in a study committee. If possible, support the bills as written. Hearings are scheduled for tomorrow, April 17, in Room 103 of the legislative office building, located behind the Capitol in Concord. HB 1571 is scheduled at 1:20 p.m. and HB 545 is scheduled at 1:40 p.m. 2. If you have not already done so, make contact with the Senate Education Committee and encourage them to support both HB 1571 and HB 545. Consider the following message in your own words: "Please support HB 1571 and HB 545; these bills will make our home education simpler and easier. Together, the bills will reduce administrative burdens on homeschoolers and public schools alike. HB 545 provides for one-time notification except for changes that will save both homeschool parents and participating agencies time and resources. HB 1571 was passed unanimously by consent in the House and further reduces unnecessary paperwork requiring parents to simply keep, rather than submit, a copy of their annual evaluation. HB 1571 removes the virtually never-used commissioner's hearing powers that could terminate a home education program. Together, both bills recognize and uphold the natural and fundamental right of parents to determine and direct their children's education. Please vote in favor of both bills!"
