====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== Missouri--Attend Important Hearing on Kansas City Daytime Curfew Wednesday, April 18 Dear HSLDA Members and Friends: Citizens who value freedom will have an important opportunity to defeat the proposed daytime curfew law at a Public Safety Committtee hearing on Wednesday, April 18. Officials who want to make it a crime for a young person to move about freely during the day will use this hearing to push their agenda. Those who value freedom should respond firmly. The cosmetic changes that have been made to the ordinance since the last hearing are superficial. They do not change the fact that it would make it a crime for a young person to move about freely during the day without his parent. Councilman Wagner and a line of important-sounding people will be there to try to justify the ordinance. Will you be there to be the voice of the citizen to protect simple freedom? ACTION REQUESTED If you live in Kansas City--or ever plan to visit there with children--please stand up for freedom by attending the meeting. A big crowd will send a powerful message about freedom! Parking is challenging. Leave plenty of time to find a parking space. Consider carpooling with friends. This is not a good setting for small children who need a diaper bag or stroller. Be courteous and polite at all times. You may feel angry or outraged about this threat to freedom--but it's very important to express yourself with self control. The meeting will take place at 10:30 a.m. on the 26th floor of City Hall, 414 East 12th St., Kansas City, MO. No knives, pepper spray, etc., may be brought into the building. BACKGROUND Although the ordinance provides many exceptions, they are individually quite narrow. Dozens of exceptions can't turn a bad law into a good law! Exceptions simply shift the burden of proving innocence onto our children's shoulders. And for most simple activities you would be happy for your children to do during the day, there is no exception. Thank you for standing with us to protect freedom! Sincerely, Scott Woodruff HSLDA Senior Counsel ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -> Can you call your attorney at 2 a.m. on Sunday morning?
