====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== Reminder: Attend Driver's Ed Bill Hearing Tomorrow Dear HSLDA Members and Friends: Attending the public hearing for House Bill 1440 tomorrow could save you and other homeschool families hundreds of dollars per student in unnecessary driver's education fees. This bill, which would extend freedom in New Hampshire by providing online driver's education, is expected to receive tremendous opposition from traditional driver's instructors and lobbyists. Let's show the committee that New Hampshire residents want this bill to pass. Please attend the hearing tomorrow morning! The public hearing before the Senate Transportation Committee is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. in Legislative Office Building Rooms 306-308 at 33 N. State Street in Concord. ACTION REQUESTED: Please attend the hearing tomorrow, April 5, 2012. When attending the hearing: 1. Wear BLUE to show your support for the driver's ed bill! 2. Sign in on the "blue sheet" when you come into the hearing .(Everyone can sign in, and signing the blue sheet shows that you support the bill - PLEASE do so.) 3. Fill out a pink card if you'd like to speak, and hand it to a committee member. > Personal stories are compelling. You can simply explain how the bill would benefit you and your family. > Speaking may simply include affirming the testimony of those who have already testified in support of the bill > Keep your testimony short (e.g. 3 minutes). BACKGROUND: HB 1440 would permit a person who is 15 1/2 years old to fulfill driver's education requirements by enrolling in an online driver's education course approved by the Department of Safety. This could save individual homeschooling families thousands of dollars in unnecessary fees and expenses. But this opportunity is at risk because of pressure from organized paid driving school lobbyists trying to keep customers in their expensive schools.
