====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== More Action Needed to Preserve the Family! Dear HSLDA Members and Friends, Thank you for contacting your senator regarding Colorado Senate Bill 130. Your calls have made a difference in raising opposition against the bill which has been held over several times. However, it appears that there are still enough votes to pass the Senate. We are asking you to contact Speaker of the House Frank McNulty and ask him to assign the bill to a committee that could vote the bill down. Please take action, as requested below, to oppose this expansion of government control over the family. ACTION REQUESTED: Please contact Speaker of the House Frank McNulty and ask him to oppose SB 130. Please give the following message in your own words: "Please assign SB 130 to a committee where you know it will be voted down. This bill increases government control over families. Parents - not the government - know what's best for their families. I oppose increasing the Department of Human Services' authority over early learning, child health, child mental health, and family support and parent education." Representative Frank McNulty (Speaker of the House) Phone: (303) 866-2346 Via email: http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=14142 BACKGROUND: SB 130 creates the office of early childhood and youth development in the Department of Human Services (DHS), which would increase government control over early learning, child health, child mental health, and family support and parent education. Efforts to increase government control over early childhood education are often a precursor to expanding the compulsory school attendance age. HSLDA opposes this bill because of its excessive government interference into the family.
