====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== Missouri--KC "Committee Substitute" Totally Unacceptable Dear HSLDA Friends and Members, This morning I reviewed a new draft of the Kansas City daytime curfew ordinance called "Committee Substitute for Ordinance No. 120180." It is totally unacceptable. It makes it a crime for a young person to be in public without their parent when the public schools are in session. It's a daytime curfew, pure and simple--without actually using the word "curfew." No amount of exceptions or exclusions--there are 13!--can cure the fatal flaw of the "Committee Substitute." Our kids must not be put in a position where they will be investigated as if they were suspected criminals just because they are enjoying God's sunshine in public. It's unacceptable to pass a law that makes our kids prove they are innocent. The only reason this ordinance requires so many exceptions is that it is fundamentally in error in the first place. When you attend the committee meeting this morning, please urge the committee to reject the "Committee Substitute" and put one of Councilman Sharp's versions up for consideration. Scott A.
