====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== Missouri--Update-- Kansas City Daytime Curfew Hits Speed Bump Dear HSLDA Members and Friends, Homeschoolers turned out in force Wednesday morning to strongly oppose the proposed Kansas City daytime curfew. Brad Haines of Families for Home Education testified against the ordinance, along with many others. Here are excerpts from Brad's report about the hearing. "I did not get an actual head count, but ran an 'estimate' and it was well over 100 home educators and students. I was so blessed to meet as many of you as possible, and words cannot describe the pride and appreciation I felt for each of you ... the sponsor brought a 'substitute ordinance' to attempt to correct the many deficiencies in the one posted on line ... the sponsor admitted he didn't need the ordinance to pass, since he could accomplish his goals with current STATE law .... The homeschoolers were enthusiastic in their opposition, but polite and courteous. Excellent representation of the homeschool community!" Daytime curfews never live up to their promises. And they hurt homeschool families more than others because we allow our children free time while public schools are in session. Homeschoolers have been harassed and frightened by policemen who treat them like suspected criminals for doing nothing more than being in public. After we have reviewed the substitute ordinance, we will get accurate information to Missouri homeschool families. Thank you for standing with us for freedom in Missouri! Sincerely, Scott A.
