====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== Take Action To Preserve Parental Rights and Family Autonomy! Dear HSLDA Members and Friends, Senate Bill 130 is scheduled for a second reading in the Colorado Senate tomorrow, March 6. This bill creates the office of early childhood and youth development in the Department of Human Services , which would increase government control over early learning, child health, child mental health, and family support and parent education. Efforts to increase government control over early childhood education are often a precursor to expanding the compulsory school attendance age. HSLDA opposes this bill because of its excessive government interference into the family. ACTION REQUESTED Please call your state senator by noon tomorrow (March 6) and ask him or her to oppose SB 130. You can find your senator's name and contact information here: http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=13939 (Just type in your ZIP code and then click on your senator's name under "Colorado state government.") Please give the following message in your own words: "Please oppose SB 130. This bill increases government control over families. Parents - not the government - know what's best for their families. I oppose increasing the Department of Human Services' authority over early learning, child health, child mental health, and family support and parent education." We greatly value you and your support--it is a privilege to serve you! If you or someone you know is not a member of HSLDA, will you consider taking a moment today to join or recommend us and support our work defending individual families threatened by government officials and protecting homeschooling freedom for all? Join now >> http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=13940 Very truly yours, Michael P. Donnelly, Esq. HSLDA Staff Attorney ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -> Extreme makeovers are for extreme circumstances... Most homeschools don't need an extreme makeover, but there is something to be said for attention to detail and recognition of accomplishments. Watch the media and you'll soon see that not everyone wants home educators and homeschooling to look good. HSLDA works hard to shed light on the good work of home educators so it's obvious that we don't need someone "making-over" our homeschools. Join HSLDA and help us show the world that we're fine as we are . . . thank you!
