====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== Victory! RFRA Passes House and HB 4309 Diverted to "study committee" February 23, 2012 Dear HSLDA Members and Friends: Your involvement in this legislative session has resulted in two important victories for freedom. HB 2567, the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, passed the House today and is on its way to the Senate for consideration. Your presence on Capitol Day and contacting your Senators have been important and we will continue to keep you updated as the bill progresses through to the Senate Judiciary Committee for deliberation and a vote. All but two delegates (Delegate Danny Wells and Delegate John Doyle) voted for HB 2567! Please remember to thank your delegate for his or her support. The dangerous HB 4309 that would have defined habitual absence from school as abuse or neglect has been assigned to a study committee. This is a good result and it appears that rather than simply amending the abuse and neglect code, legislators will look to understand and address root causes of absence from school and try to address them in more productive ways. Thank you for taking action on this important legislation that looked like it was moving towards becoming law. Without your quick and decisive action freedom for all parents in West Virginia would have been damaged. You can find out who your delegate is by clicking here: http://www.legis.state.wv.us/districts/maps/hse_dist.cfm Thank you for your effort to extend freedom in West Virginia! Very truly yours, Michael P. Donnelly, Esq. HSLDA Staff Attorney ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -> Remember the last time you wrote a term paper?
