====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== HSLDA--Action Needed TODAY to Support Parental Rights Dear HSLDA Members and Friends, The Wyoming legislature introduced HJ 3 and assigned it to the Labor Committee which meets today to consider this resolution. Please take action today to support passage of this resolution. ACTION REQUESTED Please email and call your senator and representative, asking them to send HJ 3 to committee so that the bill can receive an up or down vote in the Wyoming legislature. HSLDA is teaming up with Parentalrights.org and WyWatch to track HJ 3 and ensure its passage. BACKGROUND HJ 3 is a joint resolution that would call on the Congress of the United States to pass a parental rights amendment and send it to the states for ratification. Five other states have already passed a similar resolution. However, because this year is a budget year for the Wyoming legislature a two-thirds vote of the legislature is needed to consider HJ 3. Therefore we need your help today. For more details on this, read the text of the bill here http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=13779 The right to homeschool is based on parents' fundamental right to direct the education and upbringing of their children, and HSLDA has been in the center of the fight to preserve these rights for more than 25 years. While many courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court, have affirmed parental rights in a variety of circumstances, some recent decisions have given reason for concern that recognition of parental responsibility and authority is eroding. Consequently, there is a movement underway to amend the U.S. Constitution to protect this fundamental right. To learn more visit www.ParentalRights.org.
