====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== Take Action: Online Driver's Education Needs Your Support! Dear HSLDA Members and Friends, If being able to take an online driver's education course is important to you, and as a homeschooler it should be, please take action right now to tell the Transportation Committee that you want them to vote "ought to pass" (OTP) on HB 1440. If you are able, please attend the hearing tomorrow and testify in favor of the bill. Lobbyists for traditional driver's education programs are expected to oppose HB 1440 tomorrow because it will take business away from their driving schools and programs. However, online driver's education has been approved in a number of other states and is an exceptional benefit for homeschoolers who otherwise have difficulties obtaining space in school-sponsored drivers education programs and must alternatively pay a driving school. Consider bringing your homeschool student to observe representative government in action. Encourage them to testify about why the bill is a good move for all prospective New Hampshire drivers, not just homeschoolers. Please forward this to your friends who are not homeschoolers, since creating additional options for parents to satisfy driver's education requirements is good for all New Hampshire parents. For more information about why online drivers education is a good idea visit: http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=13553 The public hearing in front of the Transportation Committee is scheduled for tomorrow, January 31 at 2:15 p.m. in Legislative Office Building (LOB) Room 203. HB 1440 is sponsored by Rep. L. Jones, of Strafford District 1. ACTION REQUESTED: Please attend the public hearing tomorrow, January 31, and contact members of the House Transportation Committee to encourage them to support HB 1440. You can give them the following message your own words: "Please support HB 1440 which would provide for online driver's education. This will increase options for all parents. As a homeschooling parent, I support this bill because some homeschoolers have had difficulty obtaining driver's education opportunities in schools. A number of states have provided for this alternative which has proven to be safe and effective." You can email the entire committee by using the following email address: ~HouseTransportationCommittee@leg.state.nh.us Please use the subject line "HB 1440 - OTP". If your legislator is on the committee, please contact him or her directly as a constituent and identify yourself as such.
