====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== Freedom Alert: Take Action to Advance Freedom Dear HSLDA Members and Friends, The New Hampshire House of Representatives is moving swiftly to advance the cause of parental and homeschooling freedoms through various legislation. Your action is needed to support these bills. I am asking you to take action to support passage of House Bill 1382, sponsored by Rep. Jim Parison, which would require a truant officer to get a warrant or parental permission before taking custody of a child to return him to school if the child is allegedly in violation of compulsory school attendance requirements. The bill also gives parents the authority to approve alternative learning plans. Alternative learning plans can be submitted for children after the age of 16 as a way to comply with the compulsory attendance law but not attend school. Action Requested: Please contact members of the Education Committee to support HB 1382. A public hearing is scheduled for Friday, January 20, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. in Legislative Office Building 207. Please attend if you would like to support this bill in person. You can give legislators the following message in your own words: "Please support HB 1382 which recognizes parental authority by requiring a truant officer to receive parental permission before taking children into custody if they are required to be in school but are absent. By permitting parents to approve alternative learning plans HB 1382 further recognizes that parents, not the state, have the natural and fundamental right to direct and determine their child's education." Because this bill benefits all parents in New Hampshire there is no need to specify you are a homeschooling parent.
