====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== Freedom Alert: West Virginia Legislature Now in Session! Dear HSLDA Members and Friends, The West Virginia Legislature started its session today at noon and continues until March 8. In light of the threatening comments made by the new state superintendent of schools earlier this year, HSLDA will be carefully tracking and analyzing legislation that could affect your homeschooling freedom. This year we will continue to support the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, which will provide additional protections for all citizens' religious beliefs and could be used to defend homeschoolers in certain circumstances who homeschool because of their religious beliefs. HSLDA continues to work closely with the Christian Home Educators of West Virginia (CHEWV) and John Carey with Heritage Communications of West Virginia. Please stay tuned for email action e-lerts and updates as we work together to preserve your homeschool freedoms. You can learn more about CHEWV's upcoming homeschool capitol day scheduled for February 22 in Charleston and about CHEWV's annual convention scheduled for May 18 and 19 also in Charleston by visiting: http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=13281. As always, we invite you to visit http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=13282 or you may contact our office by phone at 540-338-5600 or email wv@hslda.org if you have any questions or concerns! We greatly value you and your support--it is a privilege to serve you! If you or someone you know is not a member of HSLDA, will you consider taking a moment today to join or recommend us and support our work defending individual families threatened by government officials and protecting homeschooling freedom for all? Join now: http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=13283 Very truly yours, Michael P. Donnelly, Esq. HSLDA Staff Attorney ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -> Can you look at the clouds and tell the direction of the wind? An interesting phenomenon of wind is that it can blow in multiple directions at the same time, at different heights from the ground. But usually there is a prevailing wind. HSLDA watches the gusts and monitors the prevailing trends of change in the legal climate of home education. So no matter which way the wind is blowing, we're there to protect your family.
