Federal Mandatory Child Abuse Reporting Bill Stalled HSLDA urges opposition to a new U.S. Senate bill that would make every American adult a mandatory reporter of child abuse and neglect. This bill would create a police-state reporting environment and could actually harm at-risk children. Home School Foundation: New Military Fund The Home School Foundation is proud to announce the start of the Military Fund. This fund assists military homeschool families who are struggling financially to meet their children's educational needs. Homeschool Experiment Needed in Slovakia A bill to grant homeschoolers in Slovakia more freedom was dropped by the Slovak Parliament on December 9th in light of elections coming in March. With homeschooling only permitted legally since 2008, homeschoolers hope to influence the Minister of Education to start a "homeschool experiment," similar to that tried in the Czech Republic. The experiment would lessen restrictions for parents in Slovakia and allow families to homeschool up through the 8th grade for several years giving the government an opportunity to see how it works. Family of State-napped Swedish Child Savors Small Victory Christer and Annie Johansson have won a small but hopeful victory in their quest to regain custody of their nine-year-old son Domenic who was taken from them over 2 years ago in a dramatic raid while the family was seated on an airliner departing the Nordic country. Ruby Harrold-Claesson, the couple's attorney, reported to HSLDA that the Gotland District Court ruled in favor of the Johansson's, allowing them to retain their parental rights of Domenic.
