-> Who are the nation's best lobbyists?

We don't know that this has ever been determined; but we do know
that HSLDA's Federal Relations Department is the only
national organization lobbying on behalf of homeschoolers on
Capitol Hill.

1. Federal Mandatory Child Abuse Reporting Bill Stalled

HSLDA urges opposition to a new U.S. Senate bill that would make every
American adult a mandatory reporter of child abuse and neglect. This
bill would create a police-state reporting environment and could
actually harm at-risk children. While the bill appears to have
stalled, we encourage you to read more about this dangerous piece of
federal legislation.

2. High School Extracurricular Templates

Recording all your teens' extracurricular activities as they occur
will save you much time when they are requested by colleges,
employers, scholarship committees and others. Important words to
remember when setting forth the activities: concise, organized,
easy-to-read at a glance. There are sample forms on HSLDA's
Homeschooling thru High School webpages:

9. Homeschool Experiment Needed in Slovakia

A bill to grant homeschoolers in Slovakia more freedom was dropped by
the Slovak Parliament on December 9th in light of elections coming in
March. With homeschooling only permitted legally since 2008,
homeschoolers hope to influence the Minister of Education to start a
"homeschool experiment," similar to that tried in the Czech Republic.
The experiment would lessen restrictions for parents in Slovakia and
allow families to homeschool up through the 8th grade for several
years giving the government an opportunity to see how it works.

10. HSLDA Wins Appeal against Social Security Administration

"Without your assistance, the Social Security Administration would
have just steamrolled over us. Another case of big government against
the very people who support it....Our family can certainly use the
extra stipend in this time of economic hard times."--Lisa Kroger
(names changed to protect privacy)

11. Family of State-napped Swedish Child Savors Small Victory

Christer and Annie Johansson have won a small but hopeful victory in
their quest to regain custody of their nine-year-old son Domenic who
was taken from them over 2 years ago in a dramatic raid while the
family was seated on an airliner departing the Nordic country. Ruby
Harrold-Claesson, the couple's attorney, reported to HSLDA that the
Gotland District Court ruled in favor of the Johansson's, allowing
them to retain their parental rights of Domenic.
