====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== Washington: Register Now for the 2012 Homeschool Day at the Capitol! Dear HSLDA Members and Friends: We would like to ask you to set aside one day in your home education program to help protect the freedom you enjoy in Washington state to teach your children at home. Register now to come to the 2012 Homeschool Day at the Capitol! Every single day you have the freedom to teach your children what you believe they need for this year and for the rest of their lives. You have that freedom because Washington state currently protects home-based education programs. For instance, the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) specifically states that homeschool parents "shall be subject only to those minimum state laws and regulations which are necessary to insure that a sufficient basic education opportunity is provided to the children receiving such instruction." RCW sec. 28A.200.020. There is a way you can help protect homeschool freedom in Washington state now and for the future. You can do it by attending the annual Washington Homeschool Day at the Capitol on February 8, 2012. Having vibrant homeschool families flood Olympia for the Day at the Capitol event will make a lasting impression on your legislators! We want these men and women who represent you in the capitol to remember your family, and hundreds of others, when homeschool issues come up. In addition to helping protect homeschool freedom in Washington state, the Homeschool Day at the Capitol is packed with special speakers, workshops, tours of the capitol building and much more. These events will all provide a unique educational experience for you and your children in your homeschool program. This year, HSLDA is pleased to send Joel Grewe as one of the special speakers. Joel is the deputy director of Generation Joshua for HSLDA and is a homeschool graduate. Joel draws from his years of experience in ministry and political campaigns to share with parents and youth how to influence the political world for Christ. To pre-register for the Homeschool Day at the Capitol event and get more information please visit: http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=13143 . This vital event wouldn't be possible without the tireless work from Christian Homeschool Network of Washington (CHNOW) and the support of Christian Heritage Home Educators of Washington. CHNOW works extremely hard monitoring legislation and maintaining relationships with legislators. Without CHNOW, HSLDA would have a much harder time in Washington. While the Homeschool Day at the Capitol event is free, a $15 donation to CHNOW is strongly encouraged to help them with the costs of this event. If you can give more, please do. REQUESTED ACTION: 1. Come to Olympia on February 8, 2011, to participate in Homeschool Day at the Capitol. 2. Make plans to meet with your legislator and/or sign up to help prepare a homemade apple pie to give those who serve in state government. 3. If you can't make it to the Home Education Day at the Capitol, please pray for the event and consider giving to CHNOW and support this event. You can do so by going to http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=13144 . 4. Feel free to pass this email on to your homeschool friends! BACKGROUND Last year several hundred homeschoolers showed up for Homeschool Day at the Capitol. Bring your family and help make this year's event even bigger. We would like a large turnout to help demonstrate that the movement for home education freedom in Washington is alive and strong! If you are not yet a member of HSLDA and would like to help us fight for greater parental rights and homeschool freedom in Washington, please visit http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=13145. If you would like to be put on our email list to receive vital e-lerts you may sign up at http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=13146. Thank you for your part in fighting for freedom in Washington! Sincerely, Thomas (Tj) Schmidt HSLDA Staff Attorney ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -> How long are you in for? Some families are facing what seems like a lifelong commitment to homeschooling, with children at both ends of the spectrum -- some graduating and some just reaching school age. If you're going to be "in" for a while, consider a lifetime membership with HSLDA. It's a good deal for families with more than 10 years of homeschooling ahead.
