====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== New Jersey--Calls No Longer Needed on Huttle-Weinberg Bills Dear HSLDA Members and Friends: Thank you for your phone calls! They have had a significant impact. Our opposition to the Huttle-Weinberg bills is now well known in the legislature, greatly reducing the likelihood the bills could be quietly hurried through at the end of the legislative session (in early January) under a suspension of legislative rules. ACTION REQUESTED Additional phone calls are not needed at this time. BACKGROUND A broad-based task force composed of HSLDA, Catholic Homeschoolers of New Jersey, New Jersey Homeschool Association, and ENOCH-NJ have been coordinating a number of efforts to fight these bills. Homeschoolers in other states have faced battles similar in some respects to what New Jersey families are going through right now. It's not uncommon for someone to eventually ask homeschoolers whether they wouldn't accept just a small change to the homeschool laws. New Jersey has a sensible legal framework for homeschooling that has worked well for 40 years. It simply does not need to be changed. There is no amendment to the Huttle-Weinberg bills that could make the bills acceptable. There is no "small" amount of freedom we are willing to give away. We will continue to work to stop these bills. Thank you for standing with us for freedom!
