An encouraging victory! At last--a victory for all parents in California as AB 768 supports parents' rights to make medical decisions for their children. Specifically, AB 768 supplements current law by supporting the right of parents to choose to have their male children circumcised by prohibiting local jurisdictions from passing laws that would interfere with this long-standing medical procedure. We worked for the passage of this bill. Background: San Francisco tried to pass a local ban on circumcision. AB 768 was introduced to protect parental rights by keeping the laws on circumcision uniform throughout the state of California--forbidding any city or other local government from making laws governing or restricting it.
