At its meeting yesterday, the Mobile City Council voted down the proposed daytime curfew ordinance. Needing five votes to pass, the proponents of the ordinance were only able to garner four votes. Although the final vote was 4-3 in favor of the ordinance, it failed for lack of one more vote. Council members opposing the ordinance were Fred Richardson, Jermaine Burrell, and John Williams. Your calls and emails to council members made a difference! Without the outcry from homeschooling families, it is likely that the ordinance would have sailed through the city council. We give thanks to God for this victory that preserves the civil liberties of families in Mobile. We encourage you to express your appreciation to the council members who voted against the proposed ordinance. They were under tremendous pressure to side with the mayor in this battle.
