====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== Ohio--CHEO Urgently Needs Support Dear HSLDA Members and Friends: Christian Home Educators of Ohio ("CHEO") is in critical need of increased financial support in order to continue their work on behalf of homeschoolers in Ohio. As a result of increased competition from a "for profit" conference in Cincinnati, CHEO's revenue has dramatically fallen, making it increasingly difficult for them to maintain their level of service to homeschoolers in the Buckeye State. The downturn in the economy also has taken its toll on nearly every nonprofit organization in the nation. CHEO's work in creating and maintaining a support network for homeschoolers in Ohio is critical. Their work in monitoring the legislative and administrative arms of your government is also of great importance. In partnership with HSLDA, CHEO's legislative liaison and board member, Melanie Elsey, shepherded an important piece of legislation through the Ohio legislature this year, ending discrimination against homeschoolers working in Ohio day-care centers. Mrs. Elsey's character and work effort, along with our relationships with key legislators, helps maintain the freedom that Ohio homeschoolers enjoy. CHEO is the only organization with a presence in Columbus dedicated to protecting both homeschooling and parental rights in the Ohio Legislature. HSLDA has partnered with CHEO for more than 25 years to advance and protect your freedoms to teach your children at home. The CHEO board is our eyes and ears and "boots on the ground" in Ohio. CHEO has also led the charge over the last several years to defeat several bills which would have significantly reduced your freedom. CHEO's leadership is necessary to stop bills like these every session. CHEO constantly monitors and works behind the scenes on bills that could affect homeschoolers. We must ensure that CHEO has the resources to continue to monitor all new and amended legislation and to mount effective opposition to dangerous legislation. We know the CHEO board personally and work with them closely. They are committed to God and the ministry He has given them. They are well-respected as competent professionals with experience and legislative contacts to equip them for this unique work of successfully preventing and eliminating dangerous legislation. Without CHEO's past and current efforts, we would be living under the oppression of a highly regulatory homeschool law. I am asking you to consider a generous financial contribution today to help CHEO safeguard our freedom to homeschool in Ohio. CHEO needs regular monthly support and one-time gifts. For those of you who already give regularly to CHEO, I thank you and ask you to please consider giving an extra amount at this time. Please also consider forwarding this request on to other homeschoolers. Make your gift payable to CHEO, and mail it today to: CHEO 616 Hebron Rd. Suite E Heath, Ohio 43056-1444 Thank you for your consideration of CHEO's urgent need as they work diligently to protect your freedoms. Your freedom, as you know it today, depends upon having a strong voice in Columbus to keep the liberal legislature from imposing their radical views on home education and families.
