====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== New Homeschool Law Represents Victory for Freedom Dear HSLDA Members and Friends, This week, as part of dramatic budget negotiations, the Minnesota legislature passed and the governor signed the 2011 K-12 Omnibus Education Policy Bill. The new law adopts virtually all of the recommendations made by the Minnesota Association of Christian Home Educators ("MACHE") and HSLDA and will make it easier to homeschool in Minnesota. This bill represents work initiated three years ago by MACHE and HSLDA in partnership with Senator Gen Olsen. HSLDA applauds the resolute and untiring work of the MACHE board, especially MACHE's legislative liaison, John Tuma. Countless hours were invested in guiding this bill through the legislative process. HSLDA also thanks Senator Olsen and Representatives Mary Kiffmeyer and Sondra Erickson, who deserve great credit as champions of the homeschool mandate reduction language. You can visit the MACHE website here (http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=11856 ) to get contact information for these legislators who deserve our thanks for their work in support of homeschooling freedom. HSLDA is pleased to have been part of this successful effort to improve Minnesota's homeschool law. If you are not a member of HSLDA or MACHE, today would be a great day to join! Without the support of members, victories like this would not be possible. I invite our members to send this email to someone who is not a member with an encouragement to join and support our work on behalf of homeschoolers in Minnesota, around the country and around the world! We are working to create new forms and documents to assist you in complying with the new law and will notify you when these forms are ready for use in the near future. As always, should you have any questions about homeschooling, do not hesitate to contact us. Thank you for standing with us for homeschool freedom! Michael P. Donnelly, Esq.
