====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== Maine--House of Representatives Rebuffs Homeschool Access Bill July 1, 2011 Dear HSLDA members and friends: The bill to restore homeschoolers' access to special education services and the Aspirations program (no-cost college classes for high school students) passed the Maine senate unanimously, but was voted down in the house. LD 1197 has therefore come to its end in this legislative session. For the time being, homeschoolers will see no improvement in access to these important programs. We made tremendous progress toward the restoration of access this year. We have laid much groundwork that will not need to be repeated. We view the bill's halt as a temporary setback. Just as soon as possible, we will again press the legislature to restore access. Homeschoolers of Maine (HOME) has worked very hard side-by-side with HSLDA to see fairness restored. Please consider supporting HOME if you are not already doing so. More information is available at http://www.homeschoolersofmaine.org/public/ . Sincerely, Scott Woodruff, Senior Counsel ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -> Is customer service an art or a science? For us, good customer service is both an art and a science -it should appeal to our members and be effective. Consider what our members say about us: We're thankful for the support HSLDA membership provides us. We'd never homeschool without them. We highly recommend HSLDA to all homeschoolers. - North Tonawanda, NY I cannot imagine our homeschool journey without HSLDA's strong leadership, protection, and guidance.
