====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== Illinois--Oppose Curfew, Truancy Ordinance at Hearing June 15 Dear Members and Friends in Boone County, Illinois: The daytime curfew-truancy ordinance we have previously told you about was supported by three committee members and opposed by two at the meeting Monday. This means we must continue opposing the ordinance. It is now set for a vote before the full Boone County Board on Wednesday, June 15. Defeating this ordinance means your children will continue to enjoy the blessing of being able to move about during the day without fear of being interrogated by a police officer to see if they are "truant." Defeating it means not creating a new opportunity for a homsechool family to be summoned before a municipal judge based on a dispute with the public school system over when their child was really withdrawn--and possibly placing their right to homeschool in jeopardy. The preservation of your freedom may now lie in your own hands! ACTION REQUESTED 1. Please attend the June 15, 6:30 p.m. meeting of the committee, at 1212 Logan Ave., Belvidere, to express your opposition to the curfew and truancy proposals. Before the meeting starts, fill out a public comment form and give it to the chairman so you can speak during the public comment section of the meeting. 2. Call members of the board (phone numbers below). Your message can be as simple as "Please vote NO on the proposed daytime curfew and the proposed truancy ordinance." Check our previous emails for additional background, if you wish. A link to the text of the ordinance, and previous emails on this subject, are on our website at http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=11487 . 3. If you hear these issues discussed in public--on radio, or in newspaper editorials, etc.--participate so the voice of those who oppose these can be heard. 4. Spread the word among your friends! We need a very strong showing at the June 15 meeting to defeat this ordinance.
