Mississippi: Judge Demands Homeschoolers' Identities--Supreme Court Says "Not so Fast" In an order filed this week, the Supreme Court of Mississippi stayed all proceedings in the case involving the disclosure of the identities of homeschoolers in the Thirteenth District. California: Family Gets a Visit from the Police A member family in their first year of homeschooling did all they were supposed to in regard to notifying public school officials, but they still came close to being cited for truancy. Illinois: Rockton Relents, Offers Speech Therapy A public school district tried to make a member family enroll their son in public school in order for him to receive special education services. SuperConference Presidential Straw Poll Results Released Candidates vying for support of the influential homeschool vote brought messages of educational freedom and family values to the inaugural Pacific Homeschool SuperConference. Cash Prizes for the Best Ballads Submissions will be accepted beginning May 1 for the 2011 HSLDA homeschool poetry contest. Home School Foundation: Tracy Klicka Joins the Team Elizabeth Smith, director of development, has felt led to focus her gifts and talents in other worthy ventures, and Tracy Klicka will be taking her place at the Foundation. Elizabeth has been with the Foundation for over six years--sharing her grace, love, and expertise with our donors, friends, and staff, and she will be missed. Tracy not only brings many years of experience as an organizer, homeschooling mom, speaker and writer, she also shares a common bond with many of the families the Foundation serves--that of being a widow. Her husband, Chris Klicka, was senior counsel for HSLDA and for more than 24 years worked side-by-side with HSLDA staff serving homeschoolers nationwide.
