Dear HSLDA Members and Friends, Thank you for your vigilance in following through on the action requested in our previous e-lert on the Parental Rights Amendment (Senate Memorial 954 and House Memorial 557). Your calls and emails have made a difference! Your legislators heeded your concerns and voted favorably upon the bill yesterday in a unanimous vote of 11 to 0! BACKGROUND Senate Memorial 954 was introduced and filed on February 2, 2011 by Senator Anitere Flores. SM 954 passed the Judiciary Committee on March 14, 2011 with a vote of 7-0. On March 22, 2011, SM 954 passed the Children, Families, and Elder Affairs Committee by a vote of 4-1. Currently, SM 954 was passed out of the Governmental Oversight and Accountability Committee on March 30, 2011. House Memorial 557, the companion memorial to Senate Memorial 954, recently passed the Federal Affairs Subcommittee by a vote of 9-2 on March 28, 2011 and was referred to the House Judiciary Committee.
