Iowa--Calls to Sen. Quirmbach Needed Immediately!

Dear HSLDA Members and Friends:

Senator Herman Quirmbach is saying that he may abandon his bill giving
homeschoolers access to Senior Year Plus college classes (SF 423) if
Senator Bill Dix is going to try to amend it to add the new
Independent Private Instruction option.

It's very important that Sen. Quirmbach continue to work toward
passage of his bill, with or without Sen. Dix's amendment. Time is
growing very short. He needs your encouragement immediately!

1. Please contact Senator Quirmbach as soon as possible by email or telephone (515-281-3371) urging
him to move forward with SF 423.

2. Please also send a copy of your email to your own senator and the NICHE
lobbyist: .

3. Your message can be as simple as:

"Thank you, Senator Quirmbach, for your work to ensure access to the
Senior Year Plus courses for homeschool students with SF 423 and
S-3145. Please do not let this important legislation die. I am
asking you to move forward with SF 423 in the Senate today, regardless
of any other amendments that may be offered."

4. If you are Senator Quirmbach's constituent, be sure to identify
yourself as such. As always, be polite and respectful.

The "Senior Year Plus" program (formerly known as "Post-Secondary
Enrollment Option" or PSEO) allows academically solid high school
students to take no-cost college classes. HSLDA won a lawsuit on
behalf of a member family several years ago when officials tried to
deny access to the program.

But the laws have changed significantly since then, making it
difficult or impossible for homeschoolers to participate. Sen.
Quirmbach's SF 423 would open up this program to homeschool families
once again.

"Independent Private Instruction" is a new homeschool option that, if
enacted, would allow families to homeschool following a much simpler
set of legal requirements. They would no longer need to file a CPI
form, hire a supervising teacher, or submit a year-end assessment.
Families in many other states already enjoy the benefits of a simple
homeschool law.

Thank you for standing with us for freedom!
