====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== New Mexico--Annual Notice to the State Superintendent Reminder Dear HSLDA Members: This is just a reminder for those operating under New Mexico's homeschool law that your annual notice of intent to homeschool is due by April 1. New Mexico's homeschool statute requires parents to submit notification of their intent to homeschool to the New Mexico Public Education Department (PED) within 30 days of the establishment of their home education program and by April 1 of each subsequent year. The notice is be submitted by mail or through the PED website. While your notice must provide the name of your local school district; you are under no legal obligation to notify your local school district that you are homeschooling. However, families who are receiving public assistance may need to notify their district to continue receiving public aid. The New Mexico PED Online Notification Form is available at http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=10757. You may also use HSLDA's notification form at http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?id=10751 , which is posted in the members-only section of our website. Send it "Certified Mail/Return Receipt Requested" to the state superintendent of schools within 30 days of establishing your homeschool and then by April 1 of each subsequent year. Although the law does not require that specific information be submitted for each child, the Department of Education will not process a form without at least one name and date of birth.
