====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== Rhode Island--Second Urgent Request to Stop UN Child's Rights Resolution Dear HSLDA Members and Friends: We have just learned that a SEPARATE resolution supporting the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) is pending in the Rhode Island senate, and a hearing is also scheduled for Wednesday in the Senate Special Legislation Committee. We need your help to stop this resolution as well! ACTION REQUESTED 1. Before you close this email, please call the members of the Senate Judiciary Committee and urge them to oppose SR 494. Your message can be as simple as, "Please vote no on SR 494. The Rhode Island legislature, not the United Nations or an international treaty, should govern in the crucial area of how parents relate to their children." 2. Contact your friends and pass this on. 3. This is in addition to the calls we have requested to stop the resolution in the House. CONTACT INFORMATION Senator David E. Bates Secretary sen-bates@rilin.state.ri.us (401) 246-1379 Senator Marc A. Cote sen-cote@rilin.state.ri.us (401) 765-3360 Senator Elizabeth A. Crowley sen-crowley@rilin.state.ri.us (401) 725-8526 Senator Walter S. Felag Jr. Chairperson sen-felag@rilin.state.ri.us (401) 245-7521 Senator Paul V. Jabour sen-jabour@rilin.state.ri.us (401) 751-3300 Senator Erin P. Lynch Vice Chairperson sen-lynch@rilin.state.ri.us (401) 739-8500 Senator Christopher Scott Ottiano sen-ottiano@rilin.state.ri.us (401) 222-2708 Senator Juan M. Pichardo sen-pichardo@rilin.state.ri.us (401) 461-2389 Senator John J. Tassoni, Jr. sen-tassoni@rilin.state.ri.us (401) 233-2602 BACKGROUND If adopted by the United States Senate, the CRC would place every aspect of parent-child relations under the control of the government. There would literally be no area of the parent-child relationship that would be entitled to privacy any more. Parent-child relationships in every family would be subject to the same type of scrutiny as divorcing couples experience--but with mandates so intrusive and burdensome that they verge on the totalitarian. A few moments ago we sent an e-lert urging families to call to oppose the House resolution. Since there is both a House resolution and a Senate resolution pending, it's very important that families call to oppose both.
