Iowa--Call Now to Support Driver Ed

Dear HSLDA Members and Friends:

Parent-Taught driver education needs your help right away!

HF 584 passed the house, but once it came to the senate, Senator Tom
Rielly assigned it to a subcommittee where the chairman opposes the
bill and won't even let it come up for a hearing.

It's vitally important that Senator Rielly assign this bill to a
different subcommittee. We believe the subcommittee chaired by
Senator Swati Dandekar would do the right thing and allow the bill to
have a hearing.

ACTION REQUESTED

Please call Senator Rielly. Your message can be as simple as, "Please
assign HF 584, the parent-taught driver ed bill, to Senator Dandekar's
subcommittee." Please call this weekend and early next week. Leave a
message for him at the senate switchboard, (515) 281-3371.

If you live in Sen. Rielly's district, be sure to mention that! Use
our legislative toolbox to find out for sure at
http://www.hslda.org/toolbox .

BACKGROUND

Representative Kim Pearson did an outstanding job moving this bill
through the house and on to the senate.

Parent-taught driver's ed passed overwhelmingly in 2004, but Governor
Vilsack vetoed it. This year we have a tremendous opportunity to undo
the damage done by Vilsack's veto, but we need strong support from the
homeschool community.

Parent-taught driver's ed saves lives. It is successfully operating in
several other states. It's time for Iowa families to benefit as well.

The Network of Iowa Christian Home Educators and HSLDA are united in
supporting parent-taught driver ed in Iowa.

Thank you for standing with us for freedom!

Sincerely,

Scott Woodruff
HSLDA Senior Counsel

-> How long are you in for?

Some families are facing what seems like a lifelong commitment to
homeschooling, with children at both ends of the spectrum -- some
graduating and some just reaching school age. If you're going to
be "in" for a while, consider a lifetime membership with HSLDA.
It's a good deal for families with more than 10 years of
homeschooling ahead.
