====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== California--Action Needed to Oppose San Juan Capistrano Daytime Curfew Dear HSLDA Members and Friends, The San Juan Capistrano City Council is considering a daytime curfew for children under 18. We need you to act to oppose this legislation that undermines the freedom and liberty we enjoy in the United States. If passed, this curfew will affect the flexibility and freedom of homeschool students to be in public places during school hours. Homeschool children, even those from outside San Juan Capistrano who are just visiting, could potentially be taken to the local police station to verify who they are and that they have a valid excuse to be in a public place. In fact, HSLDA is currently suing Los Angeles for false arrest of two homeschool students last year under a similar law. Please take action, as requested below, to defend your freedom. Our volunteer coordinator for opposing the daytime curfew ordinance is Mrs. Virginia Thompson. She can be reached via email at mattthompson@cox.net or by phone at (949) 496-2120. Key people working with Virginia Thompson to oppose the proposed daytime curfew: Robyn Nordell, Marie Stoutt, and Steve Cotugno. ACTION ITEMS for Residents of San Juan Capistrano and bordering cities: 1) Attend the city council meeting in support of pre-arranged speakers on our side. We are operating under the title: SJC Citizens for Responsible and Constitutional Laws (Note--As a Group, we are only opposing the Daytime Curfew portion of this proposed ordinance. There is also a night curfew provision). Download the petitions here: http://www.hslda.org/elink.asp?ID=9974 . 3) One action for SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO RESIDENTS ONLY- Please send an email to the San Juan Capistrano mayor and city council members respectfully asking them to OPPOSE any form of daytime curfew. Include one or two reasons why you want the DAYTIME curfew opposed. Send your email as soon as possible--Monday is better; Tuesday before 5 p.m. is still helpful. Hon. Sam Allevato, Mayor at sallevato@sanjuancapistrano.org Hon. Larry Kramer, Mayor Pro Tem at lkramer@sanjuancapistrano.org Hon. Laura Freese at lfreese@sanjuancapistrano.org Hon. Derek Reeve at dreeve@sanjuancapistrano.org Hon. John Taylor atjtaylor@sanjuancapistrano.org 4) Pray that this attack on freedom will be defeated. 5) Please call homeschoolers and other freedom-loving citizens in your area to alert them to this need as quickly as possible. Every person you can reach by telephone is one person more likely to stop this un-American curfew. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -> How many acorns can a chipmunk hold in its cheeks? We don't know! But we do know that gathering little by little enables ordinary folks to prepare for hard times. That principle is behind HSLDA's payment plan: by paying a month at a time, families can receive an annual HSLDA membership. Meanwhile, they can feel secure as they homeschool and focus on other priorities -- their children. Don't go nuts trying to pay for membership all at once. Choose one of our convenient payment plans.
