Utah: Provo Daytime Curfew Defeated!

Dear HSLDA Members and Friends,

Way to go Provo homeschoolers! According to news reports, hundreds of
citizens, mostly homeschoolers, picketed the Provo Municipal Council,
opposing a proposed daytime curfew ordinance. The onerous curfew was
scheduled for a vote at Tuesday's Municipal Council meeting and would
have affected the flexibility and freedom of school-age children to be
in public places during school hours. HSLDA steadfastly opposes this
kind of legislation all over the country as un-American and
unreasonable.

By their phone calls and activism, Provo area homeschoolers persuaded
the city council and mayor to kill the ordinance even before the
meeting was held. This is a tremendous result due to homeschoolers'
willingness to take action to defend their freedom from unreasonable
government intrusion.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports that Mayor John Curtis asked the
Municipal Council to withdraw the proposed daytime curfew "within
hours of a protest by home-schoolers." Read the full article here:

HSLDA extends our congratulations and warm appreciation for all of
those who took action to oppose this legislation.

It is a privilege to stand with you in defense of freedom,

Michael P. Donnelly, Esq.
HSLDA Staff Attorney
