====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== Virginia--Full Committee Hearing on Sports Access Bill Monday Dear HSLDA Members and Friends, HB 2395, which would give homeschoolers access to public school sports, was passed by a strong majority of 6 to 2 in subcommittee yesterday. It appears to have much more support than similar bills proposed in past years. This Monday, January 24, the full House Education Committee will hold a hearing on the bill in House Room C in the General Assembly Building in Richmond at 9 a.m. (Other bills will also be heard during the same time slot.) Many other states allow homeschoolers access to public school sports. Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow of Florida is a high-profile example of the result of a homeschooler participating in public school sports. We have reviewed the Virginia bill and concluded that it will not cause problems for those families who do not wish to participate in public school sports. The bill would not give religiously exempt students access to public school sports. HSLDA neither opposes nor supports the bill. However, if you are interested in supporting the bill, you may want to attend the hearing on Monday and testify in support.
