Oklahoma: Plan Now to Attend Home Education Day at the Capitol!

Dear HSLDA Members and Friends:

Oklahoma is a state of great freedom for home education. Over 100
years ago, Oklahomans adopted a state constitution that recognized
parents can provide "other means of education" to their children. As
the freedom that you have in the Oklahoma Constitution is unique even
in our great nation, it deserves our extra effort to be protected.

One of the best ways you can help ensure the continued freedom of home
education in Oklahoma, for your family and for future generations, is
to attend the annual Home Education Day at the Capitol on February 17.
When legislators see hundreds of energetic homeschool families touring
the Capitol with their bright-eyed children, it makes homeschooling
more real to them.

Even more effective (for those who are able) is to meet with
legislators. This puts a face to homeschooling and makes it more
difficult for lawmakers to vote in favor of any negative home
education bill. For more information about the Home Education Day at
the Capitol event and to register today, please visit: .

Both Oklahoma Central Home Educators' Consociation (OCHEC) and
Christian Home Educators Fellowship of Oklahoma (CHEF of OK) work hard
monitoring legislation and keeping up relationships with legislators.
Your presence will help fill the Capitol with homeschoolers and will
be vital in protecting home education freedom in Oklahoma. Last year
just over 1,600 people attended Home Education Day at the Capitol.
Make your plans now to make this year's event even bigger!

Now is the time for early registration. While you and your family can
come if you haven't pre-registered, early registration is strongly
encouraged. Registration allows you to get a name tag for the event,
pick a track for the day and purchase a boxed lunch if desired. Visit to register now.

HSLDA Federal Relations Director Will Estrada will be at this year's
event and will speak to the Future Statesman program as well as
present information to the adults on federal legislation we are
monitoring. Tj Schmidt, HSLDA's staff attorney for Oklahoma, will be
there again this year to share with the Track 1 adults important
homeschool issues across the country as well as participate in the
Legislative Impact session.

1) Come to the Capitol on February 17, 2011, to participate in Home
Education Day.

2) If you can't come to the Home Education Day at the Capitol, please
pray for the event and see if your family could bake cookies to be
given out to legislators. Each year the legislators love getting
homemade cookies from homeschoolers. To participate in the cookie drop

found here: .

Last year approximately 1,600 homeschoolers came out for Home
Education Day at the Capitol. Bring your family and help make this
year's event even bigger. A large turnout will help demonstrate that
the movement for home education freedom in Oklahoma is still going
