====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== Virginia--Restore Freedom at Dec. 9 School Board Meeting Dear HSLDA Members and Friends: On Thursday, December 9, the school board has scheduled a final vote on the religious exemption policy. The policy now on the table is very good, and deserves your strong support. But those who want to take away freedom will attend, too, and will try to convince the board to reject the policy. ACTION REQUESTED Please attend the meeting at 7 p.m. at the Warren County Government Center. Applaud those who speak in defense of freedom, and consider speaking yourself. BACKGROUND Virginia protected religious freedom even before there was a First Amendment--even before there was a "United States of America." To this day, Virginia law protects religious freedom even more strongly than the First Amendment. But the battle for religious freedom in Warren County is now taking place on the local level. The school board will decide exactly how it will implement the state exemption for families with religious convictions against public school attendance. At the November 11 meeting, I spoke to the school board and said that the good current draft complies with state law. Others spoke in support of it, as well. Despite the efforts of those who want to take away freedom, the board kept the draft intact moving forward. Thank you for standing with us for freedom!
