====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== Rhode Island--Attend Chariho Meeting Tonight About Locator Cards Dear HSLDA Members and Friends: Locator cards are on the agenda for tonight's Chariho School Committee meeting! We need a strong showing of homeschool families to continue to push for freedom. Please attend tonight to urge the committee to stop forcing locator cards on homeschoolers. You will have an opportunity to speak during the "public forum" portion of the meeting. Please urge the committee to adopt a policy specifically stating that locator cards shall not be demanded of homeschool families. The meeting will take place at 7:00 p.m. in the Chariho Middle School Library. Forcing locator cards on homeschoolers would dramatically increase the amount of red tape families must endure. There is considerable hassle involved in getting and filling out a locator card. And there is no sensible reason to put families to this trouble. When a family puts their address on their letter of intent, it should be taken at face value. No one has an incentive to provide false information. Families should be treated with trust and respect. If a child is enrolled in public school, and thousands of dollars of tax money moves with him, perhaps the red tape of the locator card is justified. But it is certainly not justified when homeschoolers pay all their own expense for educating their children. Thank you for standing with us for freedom!
