1. Indiana: Response to Outrageous Attack on Homeschooling

In response to a newspaper column calling for increased regulation of
home education, Home School Legal Defense Association pointed out that
under current Indiana law homeschoolers are excelling both
academically and socially.

2. Sweden: Government's Claws Dig Deeper in Johansson Case

Domenic Johansson remains in state custody following a Swedish judge's
recent ruling, based in part because he was homeschooled. The family
now looks to the European Court of Human Rights for justice.

4. Virginia: Radford Acknowledges "Parent" Includes Person In Charge
of Child

A public school official demanded homeschool information from parents
even though their son was living away from home with relatives. HSLDA
persuaded him that neither he nor the parents had any compulsory
attendance responsibility.

5. Student Essay Contest Accepting Entries

Have you ever thought about inventing something? Or how to define the
"American Dream." Ever felt that Ebenezer Scrooge wasn't such a bad
guy after all? If so, submit your ideas in essay form. You'll earn the

6. Regional Conference Features Mike Farris

8. Internet Commercial Video Contest Open to All Ages

HSLDA is excited to announce our inaugural commercial video contest!
Entries are being accepted through November 15. The purpose of this
contest is to create a viable commercial for HSLDA. This contest
differs from our student competitions in two main ways. Participation
is open to a wider range of entrants and the prizes are more
significant.
