====================================================================== From the HSLDA E-lert Service... ====================================================================== Virgin Islands--Unauthorized "Checklist" Seeks Private Information Dear HSLDA Members and Friends: The Virgin Islands Department of Education has sent many homeschool families an unauthorized "Checklist for Home Education and Home Schooling Programs" that seeks a shocking amount of private information. It delves into why you homeschool, your educational philosophy, your children's extracurricular activities, your "kitchen and cafeteria resources," and so on. You are not required to send any response to this checklist. You may ignore it altogether, or write back and tell them that you are not going to supply the requested information. VI homeschool policy was formulated in 1998. It requires an annual notice of intent to homeschool, and authorizes the Department of Education to conduct semi-annual portfolio reviews. But it does not authorize Department staff to demand the information in the "Checklist."
