-> You can only do so much...

No one can be everywhere at once. And you can't be at home,
teaching your children, while monitoring your state's legislature.
Through electronic legislative services, HSLDA is monitoring state
legislation for you -- watching and listening carefully for any
proposed laws that could erode your right to homeschool.
Join HSLDA today-we'll watch out for your future.

1. Advocacy through Legislation: Proactively Preserving Freedom

Key to protecting your family's right to homeschool is HSLDA's
monitoring of legislation on the state and federal levels. During the
2010 sessions, we evaluated more than 100,000 pieces of legislation.

.....................................................................
2. Colorado: Homeschooling is Truancy and Educational Neglect?

HSLDA sent a letter to policy organizations who held a "truancy
summit" that discussed homeschooling. The letter refuted the absurd
notion that home education is educational neglect or in any way
contributes to public school truancy.

3. Parental Rights: Would You Abandon Your Children to the State?

After attempts to opt his son out of offensive sexual material at
school landed him in jail, parent David Parker went to court. The
ensuing case yielded shocking revelations about the status of parental
rights and the power of public education.

.....................................................................
4. Maryland: Charles County Rattles Saber, Promptly Retreats

When a public school official labeled a member family's portfolio
deficient and warned of possible action by the state's attorney's
office, HSLDA successfully intervened.

5. Ostberg's Comments Moving Sweden Down Dangerous Path

HSLDA's director of international relations posts an open letter to
Sweden's top education officials, warning that their statist
philosophy and persecution of homeschooling can only harm families and
freedom.

6. Home School Foundation: Supporting Homeschoolers around the World

With the growing number of families struggling to homeschool in other
countries, the Home School Foundation has been blessed with increasing
opportunities to help through our International Homeschooling Fund. In
April, HSF partially funded a trip for HSLDA Legal Assistant Leah
Dobler and Sandra Lovelace of Lifework Forum to take resources and
encouragement to homeschooling families in several European countries.

7. Ground Rules for Teen Drivers

Setting safety ground rules for teenagers is an effective method of
engaging them in a conversation about responsible driving. You just
might save yourself some stressful confrontations down the road. Be
sure, however, not to break the rules yourself if you want to act as a
role model.

8. We Read the Constitution

On Saturday, September 18, "We Read the Constitution" will be hosting
hundreds of events across the country where the U.S. Constitution will
be publicly read aloud. Please consider attending a reading event or
perhaps hosting one.

9. Internet Commercial Video Contest Open to All Ages

HSLDA is excited to announce our inaugural commercial video contest!
Entries are being accepted through November 15. The purpose of this
contest is to create a viable commercial for HSLDA. This contest
differs from our student competitions in two main ways. Participation
is open to a wider range of entrants and the prizes are more
significant.

10. PHC: Are We becoming a Nation of "Fake" Christians?

Please see Dr. Michael Farris's unsettling commentary about the state
of America's Christian teens in the American Roundtable, a new
editorial correspondence of Patrick Henry College. The college has
marshaled its faculty of accomplished writers, cultural commentators,
education reformers, and Christian apologists to produce incisive
commentary on the pressing issues of the day.
