Shipe is a former Cedarville University debater and coeditor of "Argumentation and Debate: Taking the Next Step." In 1998, Christy won the Outstanding Graduate Award from the National Educational Debate Association. She helped launch the National Christian Forensics and Communications Association and served on its board of directors for seven years, four of those years as vice president. Christy graduated from Cedarville summa cum laude with a bachelor's degree in political science and received the Edmund Burke Award for excellence in the field of social science.
